Awesome Light Art…

So, I stumbled across Toby Keller this week. He’s a light artist who lives in California and creates stunning images by using long aperture speeds on his camera. Check out his website for some other pretty awesome images using the same method of photography (http://www.burnblue.com/photography/lightpainting/)

This made me think… bet I could do one of those! Now, I know this sounds big headed, but surely even with basic equipment and some patience; surely I could create something which looks a bit funky, right?

Well watch this space for my own light graffiti which I plan on creating soon!

Pharola, the world’s slimmest illuminated bollard… probably.

So for those of you who may read this and not know I am the Product Manager for DW Windsor… creator of awesome lighting goodies.

We have recently launched the Pharola LED bollard, which is the slimmest LED bollard on the market. It has a fantastic light output to it, and provides a very uniform 360 degree lighting footprint… what more could you want?

So its small... why is this important? Well, we believe that with LEDs becoming more prevalent within our world we need to both embrace this technology as well as adapt what we are used to, to enhance the LED form. The smaller the light source and associated parts, then the smaller product we can get away with. There is no need for a huge bollard with a stonking great lamp in to light an area no more than a few metres away. We can adapt the form to something much smaller, and get away with a decent lighting level still.

The Pharola isn’t an only child though; we have brought the whole family to the party. From a small bollard mounted version at 600mm to a 2200mm post mounted version and a choice of three wall mounted products the product can be used in a range of situations and aesthetically work very well with each other.

Available in a range of colours which enhance the style even more, this product is bound to find its way into some fantastic settings in the not too distant future.

Anyway, enough of this shameless plug… go on over to DW Windsor and check it out for yourselves.

All I Want For Christmas.... Is a Gorilla Luce Lamp!

I really want a Gorilla Luce lamp…

I don’t really know why, but I love them and I want one. The only place I have seen them until now is as a prize for the best moanie or overly worded letter sent into Lighting magazine each month. As I don’t really have a huge amount to moan about in my day to day lighting life (some would disagree on this point) and I struggle to articulate a blog, let alone a letter published in the lighting press, then I doubt I will be receiving one any time soon.

I also need to consider the fact that my other half doesn’t really like the thought of an internally illuminated effigy to a bloody great gorilla hanging around our house. I fail to agree with her on this one, as she knows nothing about lighting and therefore I win, plus all the other cool people in lighting seem to like them, so I doubly win. I do decided to get one, then it will have to live with me at work, where at least a couple of people may appreciate him.

Another good thing is they are donating 5% of its costs to the Save the Gorillas fund, which can only make this product even better to the world of lighting, which is constantly criminalised for the bad it is causing.

As far as I can see it there are two benefits here of me having a Gorilla Luce lamp;

1.      Looks great

2.      Saves the world, one Gorilla at a time

So, if anyone does indeed read this blog and is feeling generous, I am more than happy to be on the receiving end of a Gorilla Luce lamp which will take pride of place on my desk.

Think I’ll call him Colin too.

Scott.
